Earth Day 2017 - Koh Tao’s community once again came together for conservation & fundraising for the new community recycling project.
A mass of volunteers joined in on the Island wide morning clean up, while the local government launched a Shark & Turtle Sanctuary Project for Shark Bay/Rocky Bay and a Giant Clam Project in Sai Nuan.
In the afternoon dive schools went out in force for underwater clean-ups where all the rubbish was collected and recorded for ‘Dive Against Debris’ and transported off the island.
The after party, held at ‘The Hacienda’ gave people the chance to let their hair down, to enjoy fairground-style games, an assortment of food, drinks and the chance to win some fabulously big prizes of which most had been donated by local businesses, resorts and dive schools.
If you were unable to attend the days events you can still help by signing a petition to the local government – ‘Ban Plastic Carrier bags and Support the Reduction of Single-Use Plastics on Koh Tao’
AND 'Earth Day 2017' are asking Koh Tao businesses to commit to and sign an agreement to make their business single-use plastic free.
What is brilliant is this comes with full support from the mayor, Phan Thep
